Exercise: Why You Should Start Today

by Crystal Wells on August 16, 2009

Most of us are not happy with our current physical condition. Many people would like to lose weight, and others would like to just be in better shape. However, most people find it difficult to get started with an exercise program, but it is a necessary step towards accomplishing your goals.

Getting started is the hardest part. Once you have begun an exercise program it will be much easier to stick with it and move towards accomplishing your goals. In this article we will present some reasons that should serve as motivation to get you started with your exercise program today.

1. Weight Loss

Many people start an exercise program in hopes of dropping some pounds or a few inches off the waist. Exercise and diet should be combined in any attempts to lose weight. If this is a motivation for you, getting started with the exercise program will get you moving towards your goals instead of moving further away from them with each pound you gain while you are not exercising.

2. A Healthy Heart

Cardiovascular exercise is essential in order to maintain optimal heart health. Most experts recommend getting cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times per week, with consistency. Regardless of whether you or anyone in your family has a history of heart conditions, getting regular and strenuous exercise can go along way towards improving your heart health and decreasing your risk.

3. Strength Gains

Getting stronger is also a common goal or motivation for many people who exercise. This may be a goal a long with losing weight and getting in better shape. If you are hoping to gain strength, you will want to exercise in a different manner as opposed to someone who is only looking to lose weight. Lifting weights and other strength-building exercises will be more important for reaching these goals as opposed to jogging or doing something to lose weight.

4. Habit Development

Many people are hesitant to start an exercise program because it is not something that they enjoy doing, and it is hard to picture themselves dedicating the time and energy towards exercising a few times each week. However, exercise gets much easier as it becomes a habit. If you can take action today and get started with your exercise program, you will be setting a good habit in motion that will be easier to continue the longer that you stick with it.

5. Higher Energy Levels

For many people who exercise regularly, gaining higher levels of energy is a major benefit. Today’s lifestyle tends to leave people tired and lacking in energy. If this is the case for you, starting the habit of getting consistent exercise may be the cure for your energy problems. Exercise can boost your metabolism and raise the levels of energy that you experience throughout the day.
