Stop Procrastinating and Start Exercising

by Crystal Wells on August 16, 2009

Most people would like to lose some weight and get in better shape, but many times people procrastinate starting a diet or an exercise program. In order to accomplish your goals for losing weight and getting in better shape, if you are struggling with making the first step, you must take action or else things will never change.

Getting started is the hardest part. Once you have begun an exercise program it will be much easier to stick with it and move towards accomplishing your goals. In this article we will present some reasons that should serve as motivation to get you started with your exercise program today.

1. Weight Loss

The primary motivation for many people that exercise is shedding a few extra pounds. If this is the case for you, exercise should be combined with a diet to control the food that you are putting in your body, and to burn more calories throughout the day than you are consuming. Get started today and you will be moving closer to your target weight, instead of constantly slowly moving away from it.

2. A Healthy Heart

If you are looking to improve the health of your work, cardiovascular exercise (such as jogging, using an elliptical machine or a stair machine) is a great choice. The common recommendation is to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 days each week in order to maintain your cardiovascular health.

3. Increase Strength

Getting stronger is also a common goal or motivation for many people who exercise. This may be a goal a long with losing weight and getting in better shape. If you are hoping to gain strength, you will want to exercise in a different manner as opposed to someone who is only looking to lose weight. Lifting weights and other strength-building exercises will be more important for reaching these goals as opposed to jogging or doing something to lose weight.

4. Establishing Healthy Habits

Exercise is a very habitual thing. For those who do not get regular and consistent exercise, it’s typically very difficult to get started, and in some cases it may even be intimidating. However, those people who have been able to stick with it for a little while have developed habits of exercise that are unlikely to go away. If you start your exercise program today, you will be getting a step closer to developing these good habits that will make it much easier to stay in good shape.

5. Higher Energy Levels

Although you may think that if you exercise regularly you will always be tired, the opposite is generally true. Regular and consistent exercise will usually result in more energy throughout the day, even before and after you exercise. Those who are physically active tend to have fewer problems with low energy levels than those who are not active.
